Terms of Use
Using this site, registering for the event and taking part in the laptop giveaway
1. About these terms
This website is operated by AWS Cloud Security Group West Africa (“we”, “us”). By registering for AWS Community Day West Africa, applying for the laptop giveaway or voting, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Notice. AWS Community Day is a community-led event; we are not Amazon Web Services, Inc.
2. Registration
- Registration is free and personal. Register once, with your own real name, e-mail address and WhatsApp number. Duplicate, false or third-party registrations may be removed.
- Your Registration ID is your ticket reference; bring it (or the e-mail/number you registered with) for check-in.
- Physical attendance is subject to venue capacity. We may change the programme, speakers, date or venue and will inform registrants of material changes.
- By attending you agree to behave respectfully towards other attendees, speakers, volunteers and staff. We may refuse entry or remove anyone who behaves in a harassing, discriminatory or unsafe way.
- Photos and video are taken at the event and may be used in our community channels. Tell a volunteer if you do not wish to be photographed.
3. Laptop giveaway terms
- Prizes: two laptops. One recognises an active AWS Community Day volunteer (“Laptop 1”), selected by the organising team based on their volunteer contribution. One goes to a finalist of the public competition (“Laptop 2”).
- Eligibility: applicants must be registered for the event with a valid e-mail address. Organising-team members and their immediate family are not eligible. One application per person.
- Selection of finalists: the organising team reviews applications and selects approximately ten finalists at its discretion. Finalists agree that their name, photo, city, story and social-media links are published on the voting page.
- Referral links: each finalist receives a personal referral link. Only genuine, complete registrations by real people who intend to attend are counted. Registrations that are duplicated, fake, made with invalid contact details, or created in bulk are invalidated and not counted.
- Voting: only registered attendees may vote, once each, through the voting page. Votes are recorded with technical data to detect abuse. Finalists may not vote for themselves. A vote cannot be changed after it is submitted.
- Scoring: the Laptop 2 ranking combines verified referral registrations and valid votes with weights published on the voting page. The ranking is a guide; the organising team makes the final decision and may consider fairness, verified activity and conduct.
- Fair play: buying votes, creating fake accounts, using bots, sharing misleading information or harassing other finalists leads to disqualification. Our decisions on fraud are final.
- Winners: announced at the event or on our channels. Winners must be reachable through their registered contact details and collect the prize in person or as arranged with us. No cash alternative. Any tax or duty is the winner’s responsibility.
- We may modify, suspend or cancel the giveaway if it cannot be run fairly (for example because of technical problems or fraud).
4. Communications
We e-mail you about this event and, when we are ready, invite you to the next AWS Community Day West Africa (planned for 2027) and related AWS Cloud Security User Group events. No newsletters, no promotional offers. Every e-mail has an unsubscribe link; you can also write to info@awsusergroupwestafrica.com. Transactional messages (registration confirmation, check-in details) are sent regardless of newsletter preference because they are part of the registration you requested.
5. Acceptable use of the site
Do not attempt to access other people’s registrations, interfere with voting, scrape the site, or upload unlawful or harmful content. We may block access for misuse.
6. Liability
The event and website are provided free of charge. To the extent permitted by law we are not liable for indirect losses, for events outside our control, or for the content of third-party sites we link to. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
7. Contact and governing law
Questions: info@awsusergroupwestafrica.com. These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
